With graduation quickly approaching, we are busy preparing for the festivities of Sunday, May 21st. Following Final Exercises on the lawn, our department will be combined with Materials Science, Engineering Science, and Engineering Physics for a 1:00 diploma ceremony in Darden Court. This ceremony is expected to last less than 1 hour.
Between the Lawn Exercises and the Diploma Ceremony, and immediately following the Diploma Ceremony, we invite you and your family to join the faculty and staff for a reception with light refreshments in a tent adjacent to the East side of Thornton Hall (between D wing and E wing). Special thanks to Kyle Mavity for arranging for us to use the new “Water Bar” (see photo) that has been purchased by the UVA Water Working Group (of which Kyle is a member). Please bring your water bottle and help us host the most sustainable reception on grounds!
A number of people have asked about obtaining extra tickets for the diploma ceremony. In past years, there has been plenty of seating and we have been able to accommodate these requests. If you require more than the standard allotment of 6, please send Pat Gibson an email at email@example.com with the word “tickets” in the subject, and let her know how many extra tickets you will need. She will then respond with details on picking up the tickets. Ticket pickup from the CEE office will be available until 11 am on Friday the 19th. After that, tickets may be picked up when get your name card during the hour before the diploma ceremony.
In the event of inclement weather, the diploma ceremony will move to Slaughter Recreation Center at 1:00 PM. Please note that we will still be hosting our reception at Thornton Hall, even in the event of inclement weather.
